Donovan Plant began his career in claims investigations in 1994, under the tutelage of David W. Smothers, one of the founding fathers of California's private investigation industry. His initial training focused on the design and installation of closed-circuit television systems, one of which captured a brutal gang initiation slaying in Modesto, California. Images from the system were run on the front page of the Modesto Bee, and the perpetrators were eventually apprehended.
Later, Mr. Plant received in-depth training as a Workers' Compensation fraud surveillance investigator, which included testifying in court in fraud prosecution, company liability and Workers' Compensation Appeals Board cases. In 2001, Mr. Plant began to conduct F.E.L.A. investigations for Philip Stuto of Investigative Consultants International.
Believing that a need existed for a surveillance company that integrates closed-circuit television technology with well paid field investigators and dogged determination, Mr. Plant founded The Johnson Group in 2002, dedicated to the utilization of experienced surveillance investigators from an exclusive pool of professional subcontractors. His clients include retired federal law enforcement agents, transportation and insurance companies,as well as private citizens. |

Eric Leonard, L.P.I.

Mr. Leonard has worked as a surveillance investigator, coordinator and strategist for approximately 15 years. His surveillance cases have taken him across state lines, into gaming establishments and into rural areas where unconventional surveillance techniques are often required. Although he is based in southern California, he has spent hundreds of man-hours tracking insurance fraud suspects in northern California, all the way to the Oregon border.
In addition to being a distinguished surveillance investigator, Mr. Leonard is an experienced CCTV technician. He has designed and installed video security systems for numerous businesses including corporate office complexes and country clubs. Mr. Leonard and Mr. Plant have worked numerous “team” surveillance efforts in which they utilized wireless CCTV cameras concealed in unmanned drop cars to perform surveillance in locations where utilizing traditional surveillance techniques was not practical. |
